This Cupid and Psyche sculpture by Godet depicts the famous lovers embraced for eternity in a sculpture. This tragic tale of vengeful deities and star-crossed lovers is as well-known as the winged Cupid depicted in this sculpture. He holds his naked lover close as she gazes up at him adoringly. In Greek mythology, the story goes that Psyche was a mortal that was very beautiful, that Venus the God of love was very jealous of her. Cupid, the God of Love, fell in love with Psyche, but she was not allowed to look at him. When she disobeyed, he left her. She searched so hard trying to find Cupid by doing all kinds of difficult tasks for the Venus successfully, that they allowed her to be with Cupid and made her a goddess.
Godet’s remarkable “Cupid and Psyche” was first exhibited at the Paris Salon des Beaux Arts in 1898. Inspiration for this work came from a painting by W. Bouguereau. Rock formations at the feet of the figures are leaning back to counterbalance the forward thrust of their bodies. Cupid’s arms are protectively enfolding his love as they prepare to fly to his secret castle. Legend has it he would visit her nightly there, but Psyche’s curiosity resulted in an abrupt end to that arrangement.

Color Choices – The standard way we cast this sculpture is with what we refer to as multi-color patina. However, we can also make the entire sculpture classic statuary green or brown for a more traditional look. Both patinas are very nice and weather the same. Color selection is more a matter of preference.
* Mounting brackets can be welded on the Heroic size for permanent installation at your location for an added $75.00. Mounting screws / bolts can be inserted in the bracket under the sculpture for a secure permanent installation. You may not need then in a residential setting, but they are highly recommended for public art installations.
